Ideally if you want a nice uniform colour for your mod, the best way to do this would be in a temperature controlled environment like an oven (although most consumer ovens will have a hard time getting it past the straw or brown phase at 400F to 500F respectively), or even a BBQ if you can get the temperature close enough (a decent one should quite easily get you to the 540F needed for purple, or even the 590F for blue or 640F for the pale teal).
